BERKLEY C.OF E. VA FIRST SCHOOL

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide the opportunity and encouragement for all pupils to enjoy learning and achieve their full potential in primary education within a framework of understanding and respecting the Christian values of the school.

To create a caring, stimulating and disciplined school that enables all the stakeholders: pupils, parents, teachers, support staff, the church and Governors to play their full part.

To ensure that the local community has pride in their school.

ETHOS STATEMENT

Berkley Church of England First School aims to create an environment that enables each child to develop their full potential and challenges expectations.

Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the church at parish and diocesan level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.  It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

The ethos of the school is such that all people who come in whether staff, pupil, parent or visitor, are valued as individuals in their own right. The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils underpin the curriculum

In September 2003 Berkley C of E First School has become Voluntary Aided.  The move to VA status has given the governing body more options for funding. The school caters for 92 children between the ages of four and nine.  At nine years of age the majority of children transfer to Selwood or Oakfield Middle Schools in Frome, Somerset.

St. Mary's church is situated behind the school.  We have collective worship four times a week.
